Christmas is the time for eating, drinking and being merry, spending time with family and just taking it easy. There's only one thing worse than getting socks and knickers for Christmas, that is gaining additional weight.
Unfortunately, based on studies, the majority of people tend to put on weight during the holiday season. The main cause for it is, of course, excessive eating and lack of physical activity and exercise.
Well, Christmas is the time to enjoy yourself, so we’ve got a few tips on staying fit and healthy without missing out on the festive fun!
Drink plenty of water
Our bodies are composed of 60% water. Water is an essential nutrient, which helps with all body functions operating around the clock. Fill up your water bottle and stay hydrated. Drink at least two litres of water each day. Water will help you feel full more quickly, therefore causing you to consume fewer calories and stay fit over Christmas. If you find drinking plain water boring, it is easier to keep things interesting by adding a squeeze of lemon/lime or chopped up pieces of your favourite fruits! Your body will thank you for it as it attempts to digest an uncountable number of mince pies.
Walks with family and friends
It's a rare occasion that all the family members and closest friends are off work and free to meet up at the same time. A nice relaxing walk in the park is a great way to move over Christmas and it's a perfect excuse to get away from the table full of tasty temptations...Treat it as an activity that you can fit into your festive schedule, which will help you stay fit over Christmas. The fresh air will do you good too.
Think about what you eat and drink
Select the treats and drink with moderation.
The treats that you eat should be selected in a wise manner. Try to choose something that you can only enjoy during the festive period and not something that is readily available all the time. Try to keep consumption of mulled wine, beer, champagne, sugar-laden cocktails and pre-mixes at reasonable levels. Remember that alcohol, coke and tonic water only add more calories to the ones you already have eaten!
Try Ice Skating
Another way to stay fit over Christmas is ice skating. Exercising in the cold burns even more calories than doing the same workout indoors. Ice skating is a great winter fun that you can enjoy with the whole family. You may not get a chance to do any other time of the year...
Staying fit over Christmas can be easy thanks to all these tips above. It’s all about your choice! Whilst it is important to eat healthily and stay active, make sure you take the time to relax and enjoy yourself during the holidays. Make the most out of the time you have with friends and family. We wish you a very Happy Christmas!
