How to stick to your fitness New Year's Resolutions. Get started and stay motivated.

Most of us have made New Year’s Fitness Resolutions to adopt a healthier lifestyle, lose weight or hit the gym more regularly. Making a fitness resolution on New Year’s Eve is the easiest part, but the challenge lies in putting it into practice and sticking with it for the long-term.

Research has shown that around one-quarter of people give up their New Year's Resolutions after just one week, while fewer than one in ten will maintain their goal to the end of the year.

This year truly stick to Fitness New Year's Resolutions, stop the cycle, make 2020 a better year and stay true to your best intentions.

Here are seven tips by The Box London to help you get started and stick to Fitness New Year's Resolutions. Let’s turn your fitness goals into a reality—not just in January, but throughout 2020.

1. Be Realistic.

Do not be over-ambitious. If you are beginning your journey with fitness keep things in perspective by aiming for small rather than big steps forward. It will take some time and hard work to build a better body. Take things fairly easy at the beginning, otherwise, you might be tempted to cancel that new gym membership before Valentine’s Day...Don’t expect lasting change for at least three months.

2.  Focus on the bigger picture to stay motivated.

Let’s be realistic, a more active life isn’t going to happen overnight. Your mind and body need time to adapt to new routines. Motivation often follows action. The more action you take, the more motivated you’ll feel. Do not make your New Year’s Resolutions January Resolutions. The secret is that you will see results all the way through, you just need to look out for them. It's going to take much longer than 30 days.

3. Write down your fitness New Year's Resolution and display it with pride.

Goals are more achievable when written down and shared on social media. What are you waiting for? Tell your friends and family to get support along the way! Display your written New Year’s Resolution prominently. Talk about it! Strong emotional backing will only support you, the effort of training will soon become much less of a chore.

5. Reward yourself for completing goals.

Congratulate yourself when you make achievements and keep reminding yourself that more will follow if you keep it going. Promise yourself regular rewards, to stay on course for better fitness and stick to Fitness New Year's Resolutions. Remember, moderation is key to maintaining a good physique and motivation.

6. Track your progress.

Measure your progress. Take photos of your progress. Use scales, take circumference measurements, look for the energy boost and improved sleep.  Be consistent tracking your progress, do it once per week, same day, same time, be fair.

7. Don’t rely on motivation alone.

Do it with a friend. It has been proven that working together and joint planning really helps to stick to Fitness New Year's Resolutions. Remember, together is better.

Trying to stick to your New year’s Fitness Resolutions doesn’t have to be so difficult. Share your fitness resolutions now and start getting support now!
